Christmas Cookie Cutouts
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/4 cups flour
1 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground mace (optional)
Cream butter and sugar. Add egg, milk and vanilla; beat well. Stir flour together with baking powder, mace and 1/2 teaspoon salt.; blend into creamed mixture. Divide in half. Cover and chill at least 1 hour. On lightly floured surface, roll each half to 1/8 inch thickness for thin cookies or 1/4 inch thickness for thicker cookies. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters. Place on ungreased cookie sheet in pre-heated 375 degree oven, baking for 7-8 minutes for thin cookies or 10-12 minutes for thick cookies. Makes 4-4 1/2 dozen thin or 3 dozen thick cookies. Let cool, frost and decorate as desired for a festive holiday treat.
